A North Eastern Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority shellfish permit is required if you take any lobster, crab, velvet crab or whelk from within the NEIFCA district.
If you wish to fish commercially (i.e. sell your catch) within the North Eastern Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authorities District, your vessel must hold a current North Eastern IFCA permit, which will be issued to a vessel providing that:
- it is under 16 metres overall length;
- it is registered with the Maritime and Coastguard Association (MCA) (external website);
- it has a shellfish entitlement on a valid fishing licence (administered by the Marine Management Organisation (MMO)).
Application forms for a North Eastern IFCA permit can be requested by telephone, post or email through the contact us page.
On applying for your vessel’s permit it will be necessary for you to send us a photocopy of both sides of the vessel’s Certificate of Registry (COR) and subsequently each time the vessel’s COR is renewed.
If your vessel is under 10m in length, you are required to complete monthly shellfish returns – form MSAR1, issued by the Marine Management Organisation. The forms need to be completed and returned to the Marine Management Organisation no later than the 14th day of the month following the period for which the returns are due.
If your vessel is over 10m in length, you are required to complete and submit monthly shellfish catch returns issued by North Eastern Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority. The forms for over 10m vessels need completing on a monthly basis and submitting to the Bridlington office no later than the last day of the month following the period for which the returns are due.
For vessels over 10m, permits will not be renewed unless all monthly catch returns for the previous year have been received.
