Consultation on new Byelaw Regulation covering Minimum Sizes

Minimum sizes

Working in partnership with Northumberland and Kent and Essex IFCAs, we have just launched a formal consultation on a new minimum size byelaw regulation.

This new regulation will replace the existing emergency byelaw regulation and is intended to ensure the continued protection of minimum size rules in the context of changes to European legislation on fish and shellfish stocks exploited throughout the Authority's district.

This will be achieved through the prevention of the removal of pre-spawning fish and shellfish from fisheries which are below the minimum size, established within European legislation, in relation to commercial and non-commercial fisheries and to enable the effective enforcement of such.

Copies of the draft bye-law regulation and supporting Regulatory Impact Assessment are attached to this notice.
