Formal Consultation, BYELAW XXI ‘Protection of ‘V’ Notched Lobsters’ and BYELAW XXIV ‘Cockle Management Byelaw’

Notice is hereby given that pursuant to the above Regulation, North Eastern Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority intends to apply to the Minister for the Department for Environment Food and Rural affairs for confirmation of the following Byelaws:

BYELAW XXI ‘Protection of ‘V’ Notched Lobsters’

This is a new byelaw which was made by the Authority on 8 December 2011. It prohibits the taking, retention, storage, carriage, transportation or landing of any ‘V’ notched lobster or mutilated lobster of the species Homarus gammarus within the Authority’s District.

BYELAW XXIV ‘Cockle Management Byelaw’

This is a new byelaw regulation which was made by the Authority on 8 December 2011. It requires that any person fishing for cockles within the Authority’s District must hold a valid permit. It also sets conditions for the exploitation of cockles including the use of hand rakes only, a minimum cockle size, a closed season, provision of monthly catch and effort returns, controls on the number of permits issued and mechanisms to close individual fisheries.
