Following the sad passing of its long-standing Chairman, George Traves MBE, North Eastern Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority recently elected its first lady Chair.
Margaret Chapman MBE was unanimously elected as Chair at the annual authority meeting held on 5 June 2014. Margaret is an East Riding of Yorkshire Councillor and a long-standing member of both North Eastern IFCA and its predecessor organisation North Eastern Sea Fisheries Committee. Throughout her career Margaret has maintained a keen and active interest in the local coastal community, previously serving as a Bridlington and Flamborough Harbour Commissioner and has a long history of involvement in the region’s fishing industry.
Margaret is relishing the challenges of her new role and following her election said: “This is an immense honour and privilege and I’ve some big shoes to fill and although significant challenges lie ahead, we have some fantastic officers and members and I’m looking forward to working positively with them all.”
Malcolm Sims the Deputy Clerk to the authority said: “This is a very positive appointment for the Authority, Councillor Chapman brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the role and I wish her every success”.
Margaret is supported by a new lady Vice-Chair, Carri Nicholson who has worked extensively with local fishing communities.
